The Manufacturing Planning and Control System (MPC)
Provides Information to
1 Manage the flow of materials efficiently
2 Utillize people and equipment effectively
3 Coordinate internal activities with supplies
4 Communicate with customers about market requirements.
Three distinct phase
1. Front End : Production plan and one or more master production schedules
2. Engine : Convert the MPS into a detailed material and capacity plan and feed back to MPS when materials and capacity can not support it.
3. Back End : Deals with the interface of the detailed material requirements and capacity plans with the internal execution and control system and with external supplies system. And, also includes the feed back to MRP and CRP.
MPC is Closed-Loop system, which typically inclueds SOP/ MPS/ MRP/ CP in planning phase and Input-output capacity/ detailed scheduling/ Dispatching/ Anticipated delay reports from both the plant and suppliers/ Supplier scheduling in execution phase.
