Symptoms

Extract hangs on AIX platform. when reading archived/redo log files from ASM via DBLOGREADER.

The ggserr.log file shows warnings like this:

WARNING OGG-00720 Oracle GoldenGate Capture for Oracle, .prm: Waiting for archive log +ASM/archivelog/2011_12_16/thread_1_seq_342619.1332.770035279 for seqno 342619 , has read 448141312 bytes, to be flushed.

Cause

This is an AIX specific problem. When the DBLOGREADERBUFSIZE is set higher than 1 MB the extract cannot read the files as the AIX read buffer size is 1 MB.

The default value of DBLOGREADERBUFSIZE  is 2 MB, thus not specifying explicitly this parameter will cause extract to hang.

Solution

1. Set DBLOGREADERBUFSIZEto 1 MB in the extract's parameter file:

TRANLOGOPTIONS DBLOGREADERBUFSIZE 1M

or

2. Use the build which contains a fix for this bug:
