External fomat to internal fomat : quantity

Hi,

I'm facing a problem which is quite recurrent and I would like to know if you have an answer.

In fact, I have a quantity in external format ( which match the user parameters ) and I want to "cast" it into internal format.
For example

1.000.000,56 --> 1000000.56

Is there a solution without the replace ? A function module? Or is anyone developped a subroutines which take all the possibilities into account?
