Job Title: MTS1, Software Engineer (Tracking)

At eBay we deal with petabytes of data that is collected, processed and queried at a rapid basis. Experimentation & Tracking is to build and operate a High Quality, Highly Available, Fully Automated, Cloud Native Online, Streaming and Offline Data Platform to drive eBay growth. 

eBay Tracking Platform team aims to provide highly automated, accurate and consistent user behavior tracking to ensure eBay understands how end-users interact with its products. The feedback loop from these critical insights fuel further improvements to the product and business performance. Finance, Experimentation and other analytics products are all downstream of tracking. 

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of relevant programming languages, databases, web protocols, design patterns, storage, and network. Exceptional problem-solving abilities will be critical for success, as will be a focus on quality. The successful candidate will participate in the entire life cycle of a product ranging from architecture through testing and production rollout. 

Primary job responsibilities

• Design and develop eBay tracking platform to help product and business teams to generate accurate and consistent data to facilitate decision making in eBay. 

-     Develop highly reliable, non-disruptive tracking agents for various types of user agents to automatically track user interactions with eBay products. 

-  Develop a high throughput and highly available data collection system to receive, validate, transform and send tracking data to downstream with robust monitoring and alerting.

-  Develop scalable streaming and batch data processing systems to parse and analyze large volumes of data to build useful insights from raw tracking events.

Job requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent is required.
• Strong and solid software development background, mastering Java, Javascript, HTML/CSS, database and common JS libraries such as React.

• Be experienced with building data application with Spark & Hadoop ecosystem
• Be experienced with building data application with stream-processing
• Working experience or knowledge of distributed system is preferred
• Working experience with user behavior tracking is not necessary but a plus.
