How to use CSV or Text files as datasource for ReportNet (CRN) or Cognos 8 via ODBC

Resolving the problem

Make an ODBC connection in Windows via the Microsoft Text Driver, to a CSV or TXT file. Add the connection to CRN, and set up a Model to connect to the same datasource. Steps:Steps to create a new data source using Microsoft Text Driver ODBC connection:

Launch ODBC (Start => All Programs => Administrative Tools => Data Sources (ODBC)
Select the "System DSN" tab, so that the connection is available to everyone.
Select "Add"
From the "Create a new data source" window, select "Microsoft Text Driver (*.csv, *.txt) and click "Finish".
In the ODBC Text setup window, provide a name for the data source (eg. Test).
Clear the check box for "Use current directory" and click on "Select Directory".
Provide the file name of the "xx.csv" or "xx.txt" source and navigate to the location folder and click OK. The new data source name should be visible and available in the "System data sources" window.
Click OK to close the Data Source Administration window.

Note: If the connection is being made to a network shared directory, select "none" instead of a mapped drive letter and specify a UNC path to the shared folder where the .txt or .csv file resides.

To reconfigure the datasource, select it in the ODBC Datasource Administration => Configure selection.

Two files are attached for convenience based on the National sample, a .csv and a .txt file.
