Symptoms

In the ASM's alert.log file we see the following errors:

Errors in file /u01/app/oracle/admin/+ASM/bdump/+asm_gmon_14159.trc:

Cause

CSS actually missed checkins for itself and then evicted itself. This kind of problem is often associated with heavy load on the machine and CSS not being able to get scheduled. CSSD daemon aborts due to lack of resources. BUG 6059429 has documented this might happen due to memory crunch.

Solution

Increase the physical memory and SWAP accordingly as per following rules.

If RAM = 1024MB to 2048Mb
then 1.5 times RAM
elseif RAM > 2048MB and < 8192MB
then match RAM
else RAM > 8192MB
then .75 times RAM

OR

Move some databases/grid control (if on the same server) to another server.
