主题: 10.2.0.4 patchset will not allow CRS on shared disk Inventory
RDBMS Version: 10.2.0.4
Operating System and Version: Linux x86-32
Error Number (if applicable):
Product (i.e. SQL*Loader, Import, etc.): CRS
Product Version:
10.2.0.4 patchset will not allow CRS on shared disk Inventory
10.2.0.1 will allow installation of CRS/RDBMS for RAC into a shared Oracle home on OCFS2, including a Central Inventory on a shared drive. However patchset 10.2.0.4 will not allow patching of that CRS installation.
The error specifically states that each node should have its own central inventory and that a Central Inventory on a shared drive is not supported. Can't find anything specific to this, either in install doco or metalink.
Has something changed with support for shared Oracle Homes on OCFS2, is there a workaround or have I missed something?
Thanks
Its not an issue with OCFS but rather with the central inventory directory. I had the same issue and open a tar and got the following answer: Great. Thanks very much for that. I have same issue before.
Quoting Oracle:
It is not supported to have central inventory on a shared location. There was a bug.5009954 "OUI SHOULD ENFORCE SEPARATE CENTRAL INVENTORY LOCATIONS IN RAC" filled on this issue. This bug is fixed in 11.2. It is actually an OUI issue which doesn't perform. a check to make sure that central inventory location is n
ot on shared device.
In order to fix the inventory, you can change the OH/oraInst.loc in the CRS home to point to a non-shared directory.
Run
of the nodes. Finally copy the oraInst.loc to the /etc/oraInst.loc.

The bug is also not open to the public so can't view its text. HTH.

Curious, though, that shared home support is provided, yet we need an inventory for each node...although I suppose I could just put an inventory on just one node, although that would mean all updates & patches would need to be done from that node.
Would putting a central inventory on each node and having a shared home mean we also have to make sure all inventories are manually synchronised between all nodes after an update from 1 node, or is this catered for through OUI?
Nice of Oracle to share this bug and the solution too...it's a little obscure but not ridiculously so.

The workaround maybe just moving /etc/oraInst.loc away/back.
Thanks.
