Oracle Datafile Space Management in IBM AIX

An example shows how to allocate space for Oracle datafile in IBM AIX.

Scenario: we will add 4 GB to 8 Gb to one oracle directory /archdestdmdb as following: (It is a logical volume under AIX.)  

root@roam:/>df –k /dev/archdestdmdblv

Filesystem            1024-blocks    Free    %Used    Iused %Iused Mounted on
/dev/archdestdmdblv     4194304     1877108   56%      502     1% /archdestdmdb

We apply extend Logical Volume to enlarge the LV to be 20G as following:

root@roam:/>extendlv archdestdmdblv 24576M

root@roam:/>df -k
