This note describes how Oracle Assets calculates the depreciation of an asset with following setup:
The setup of the depreciation book is as follows:
- Monthly depreciation calendar
- Daily prorate calendar
- Depreciation Allocation : By Days
The Asset is added with Date placed in service (DPIS) in current period : 10-JUL-2008
Prorate convention : Daily then Prorate Date = 10-JUL-2008
Cost : 1000
Depreciation Method : STL
Life = 2 Months
First we must calculate, the annual depreciation rate : 2/12
Prorate date = 10-JUL-2008 then we have 22 days in July
Depreciation amount for July will be :
(cost - salvage value) / life years / 365 days * 22 days
= 1000 / (2/12) /365 * 22 = 361.64
